The spectacular Krimml Waterfalls

Family trip to Krimml Waterfalls

Marvel, observe and learn at Europe’s highest waterfalls

For all of us, water is something we take for granted every day. It comes from the tap in kitchen and bathroom at the desired temperature, flushes the toilet at the push of a button and refreshes on warm summer days in lakes and public pools. Children and parents get to know a whole new side of the wet element during a trip to the Krimml Waterfalls: elementally forceful, thunderous, powerful, yet at the same time fine and gentle as spray with healing powers. Tip: visit the waterfalls and the WasserWelten Krimml with the affordable combined ticket available at the waterfall centre. Parking at car park 4 is included in the admission. Go with us to the world’s fifth-highest waterfalls!

The path to the Krimml Waterfalls: a trip into the past

Take the even footpath from the waterfall centre to the first lookout platform, Kürsinger Platz. Up to this point, the path can be accessed with a pram. Feel the cool breeze of the water and the fine spray on your skin – and even the tall ones will suddenly feel very small in view of the gigantic waterfalls plunging into the valley from a height of 380 m. We have to thank the colossal powers that forged the Alps via plate tectonics in primeval times for this one-of-a-kind beauty of nature. That’s how the deep slope over high the water of the Krimmler Ache flows down in three cataracts was formed. Enjoy taking a look at the history of the Earth and the pleasant microclimate near the waterfalls!

The waterfall path: panoramic hike to the highest waterfall

Unfortunately, 4 four km waterfall path isn’t suited for prams or buggies. You can, however, carry your smallest darling in a back or front carrier across on the secure path. The waterfall path curls uphill on the side of the whooshing water masses in serpentines. Experience unique views of the waterfalls and the valley from several lookout platforms. Reach your destination after about one and a half hours, the highest waterfalls. You can continue on the path into the Krimmler Achtental with older children who love to hike in the mountains. The Krimmler Achental is a destination for athletic families; you can cover the way back on foot or by valley taxi.
