An adventure for family and children

Gerlos Alpine Road for families

Adventurous trip for parents and children in the province of Salzburg

The Gerlos Alpine Road leading from Krimml in the Pinzgau to Gerlos and further to Zell am Ziller in the Tyrolean Zillertal offers lots of variety for families with children. It doesn’t matter whether you start your journey in Tyrol or Salzburg, driving on the panoramic road is always a very special experience. The WasserWelten Krimml with Europe’s highest waterfalls are waiting for you at the start or finish point in the Pinzgau! You can stop at several car parks on the alpine road from Krimml to the pass summit and enjoy various views of the tremendous waterfalls. Information boards, playgrounds, seating at the most beautiful panoramic spots and the lookout tower on the pass summit complete the offerings.

WasserWelten Krimml and Krimml Waterfalls by the Gerlos Alpine Road

Park your car at car park 4 located right next to the WasserWelten Krimml and visit the waterfall centre with the multimedia Aquaszenarium, the exhibition at the Haus des Wassers (Eng. “House of Water”), the Aquapark outdoor area with many options for experimenting and playing, and, of course, the Krimml Waterfalls. Great for parents with babies and toddlers: the first lookout platform by the cataracts, Kürsinger Platz, can be reached barrier-free with the pram. Take older children on a hike on the 4 km waterfall path leading you up to the first waterfall. Tip: buy the combined ticket including all attractions and the parking fee for car park 4 at the waterfall centre!

Rest spots and playgrounds, lookout tower and adventure: the Gerlos panoramic road

Driving on the breathtakingly beautifully mountain road is an enchanting experience for visitors of all ages with unique views of the High Tauern and the Kitzbühel Alps. Since the journey is the reward, you should stop rather frequently! Five smaller rest spots and a playground on the pass summit at 1,628 m above sea level offer enough space for small mountain lions to move about. Naturally, the lookout tower at the mountain pass needs to be scaled as well. The panoramic view from the highest point of the Gerlos Alpine Road is breathtaking! You can also go for a walk or a hike along the road. Our tip for families: aside from the waterfall path in Krimml, the round path around the Durlassboden reservoir is worth a shot – entertaining swimming on warm summer days included.
