Gerlos Alpine Road

Panorama Road in the Hohe Tauern National Park

Enjoy the beauty of the landscape between the provinces of Tyrol and Salzburg on 12 kilometres of panorama road in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The well-developed Gerlos Alpine Road winds up through eight bends at gradients of up to nine per cent.
At a maximum altitude of 1,630 metres, the Gerlos Alpine Road offers drivers a panoramic experience with enchanting views over the Krimml Waterfalls, into the Achen Valley, the Salzach valley and into the Wildgerlos Valley.

The two-lane connecting road was built between 1960 and 1962 from the community of Krimml to the so-called Pinzgauer Höhe, just before the Durchlaßboden Reservoir. The plans for construction were completed in 1949 by Franz Wallack, the brilliant engineer of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

The Gerlos Alpine Road is open to traffic throughout the year and offers optimum access to the world-famous Krimml Waterfalls and the fascinating theme park in Pinzgau, the Krimml Wonder World of Water.

Enjoy the panorama road and the beauty of the landscape, take refreshment at the waterfalls and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of water at the Krimml Wonder World of Water.
